It was reported today that 10 states are asking the FTC to establish guidelines around carbon offsets, fearing the potential for fraud. Carbon offsets is a $100M/year business and, as Paul posted earlier, is not an easy one to navigate through as a consumer. The lack of standards makes it difficult for consumers to know whether they got what they paid for.
This is one instance where I’m not opposed to the federal government stepping in, provided they help consumers make more informed decisions.
