A coworker of mine just installed a solar attic fan two weeks ago, and he loves it. He said it noticeably cools down his house a lot. This past weekend, I just saw solar attic fans for sale at Costco. I think they were $300 each, and I can't imagine it would cost that much to install. Given you live in California, it's generally hot when it's sunny (vs. hot and muggy when there's no sun), which means you should always have power to the fan when it's warm outside. Even if you decide to get an A/C system, this solar attic fan should help save on the amount of energy you'll use with your A/C. Great timing with this post.
