Hello from Smoggy Hong Kong

Greetings from smoggy Hong Kong, where I am visiting my family. The picture to the left here is taken from the office in the IFC1 building complex. As you can see, Hong Kong has a major smog problem, due to its position as the capital of "Factory of the World" - the Pearl River Delta which, has 99 million people, and 57,000 factories. This interesting article from CNN indicates both the extent of the problems that Hong Kong faces, as well as the impact it's having. To me, it's also a very stark reminder that the environmental problems we decry from our lovely and relatively clean perch in the SF Bay Area are really tangible. You can see it and smell it every day here in Hong Kong. As the Beijing Olympics approach, we'll be hearing more about the massive environmental problems China (and therefore the world) faces. But if you want to know more, take a look at this interesting series from the New York Times entitled: China: Choking on Growth.
