Honda FCX - The car of the future, here soon!

In this article in the NY Times, the author quotes his physicist cousin Howard as saying (in 1990) that hydrogen cars are 20 years away, and always will be. That’s kind of what I thought too, when George Bush, our traitorous, war-criminal “president” talked about hydrogen cars in one of his recent state of the union addresses. I mean, who takes anything he says seriously anyway?

Well surprise surprise! It turns out that Honda has a hydrogen car, the Honda FCX Clarity and the good news is that it’ll be ready next year! Other good news is that according to Honda, it gets the equivalent in gasoline of 68 miles per gallon. Also, as you’ll see if you read the article, it’s a pretty sweet car too!

Now the bad news. First of all, the benefit is also the drawback. It takes hydrogen, which is not sold, basically, anywhere. Secondly, it’s only being released in Southern California (Torrance, Santa Monica and Irvine), where apparently there are a few hydrogen sources. Thirdly, it’s only being released as a Honda subsidized lease, because these cars apparently cost a TON to make.

But all in all, I think this is great news. These cars seem like a real breakthrough, and if we can start getting the infrastructure in place to support these cars then we can stop relying so much on burning fossil fuels.
