Polar Bears and Crude Oil

What do polar bears and crude oil have in common? The Chukchi Sea. This sea is located in the Arctic Ocean, bounded by Russia and Alaska. In addition to having a very large crude oil reserve (15 BILLION barrels), it's also the home of many of our soon-to-be endangered polar bear friends. The Bush Adminstration has plans to drill oil here, and has assured lawmakers that there will be no threat to polar bears. Really? I quite disagree. If we allow this to happen, we are basically putting our polar bears on the path towards extinction. We will be adding additional stress to their already shrinking habitats. Furthermore, if a catastrophe were to ever occur, the combination of polar bears and oil would likely be fatal. We need to start protecting the polar bears and stop serving the interests of big oil companies. Lawmakers, please put the interest of polar bears first! EXTINCTION IS IRREVERSIBLE. We cannot allow this to happen.
